Pink Bolivian Alpaca Scarf and Shawl |
Bolivian Women Knitting Alpaca Scarves and Shawls
|
The artisans who knit these alpaca scarves and hats are part of a wonderful group in the Bolivian Andes
that was founded by Peace Corps volunteers in the mid 1990's.
The goal of the group is to improve the lives of improverished, indigenous women and their families.
This goal is achieved both through the development of warm handknit scarves and hats
which are sold at fair trade prices, and by providing the women with information on human rights and family issues.
You'll love the feel of these fashionable alpaca scarves and shawls. |

Ethiopian Cotton Textiles
White cotton is the traditional cloth of Ethiopia; located in East Africa.
Women wear white cotton dresses while men don tunics over riding pants.
The most distinctive element of local dress, however, is a large white
cloth most Ethiopian people wear over their shoulders and/or around the
head.
The fine cotton used in these garments is produced locally in Ethiopia on both
small, organic farms and in larger state-run agriculture centers.
Weaving is done by hand on wooden or metal looms, and the
cotton can be mixed with nylon and other fabrics to create amazing patterns and rich designs.
