With these ceramic nativities you can either choose it to be a hanging ornament with a string, or a decoration to
sit without a string. There will be some artistic variations of people and animals - making each nativity unique.

A Bolivian artisan creates the figures for these ceramic nativity decorations.

The Wiñay artisan workshop in Cochabamba, Bolivia is a grassroots organization whose goal
is to provide income for community women.
While the women work on-site creating the ceramic nativities above and the jacaranda seed pod nativity below,
their children are fed and supervised in the center's day care unit.
Artisans make about 10% more than the average government job.
One World Projects supports Wiñay by providing a market for their products,
and also donated a roof to improve working conditions for artisans and for the safety of their children. |

Jacaranda Pod Nativity $14.00
This cute nativity manger scene is crafted from a jacaranda tree pod and very small ceramic figures.
The tree pods are, of course, slightly different sizes, but these are about 2.25" high, 2" wide and 3.5" long.

Guatemalan Nativities
 |
These cotton nativities are handmade by
women in an impoverished area of Guatemala.
However UPAVIM (Unidas Para Vivir Mejor or United for a Better Life) has
grown from a small community health project to a successful cooperatively run business
that provides social services in a growing community
which receives very little attention from the local or national governments.
For example, the Children's Center Program was founded in 1994 to provide an infant daycare service and pre-school education (shown left).
They've achieved this through donations, hard work, investments in people and expanding the markets for the women's crafts.

Peruvian Ceramic Nativities - Lima
We've begun working with more artisans in Peru through Manos Amigas (Friendly Hands).
This is a fair trade organization that helps Peruvian artisans develop and export handmade goods
to the United States and Europe.
In addition to promoting economic development through fair trade, the group provides business training
and helps artisans identify new markets for their crafts.
Twenty per cent of Manos Amigas' profits are dedicated to social programs, including childhood and youth education,
while 80% of the profits go directly to the artisan.
