Shramik Kala is a collective of self help groups for poor tribal women artisans in
Belgaum, India in the state of Karnataka. Shramik Kala is supported by the non-profit organization
Shramik Abhivrudhi Sangh (SAS), which trains the women to enhance their skills in ethnic hand-stitching,
and helps them market their products.
Plus, women learn to work with eco-friendly cotton, jute, mestha, sisal, banana & natural dyes.
Shramk Kala products are highly sought after by persons in both India and abroad as an elegant,
eco-friendly alternative to a market flooded with plastic and nylon.
This initiative is a fine example of a replicable, sustainable livelihood initiative for women.
Many of the women belong to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, who previously
would have had few financial or social opportunities.
Your assistance to the women in these semi-arid, drought prone regions of North Karnataka, India, is greatly appreciated.
