Aromatic Hotpads and Coasters

This Guatemalan woman is weaving cloth in the traditional fashion, one thread at a time.

These are not ordinary hotpads and coasters - they are hand-made by women in a marginalized area of Guatemala City, and they're aromatic!

The aromas of either coffee or cinnamon and cloves will be enhanced by the heat.

The organization coordinating this work provides services to thousands of people in and near La Esperanze, including dental and medical clinics, a laboratory, pharmacy, a daycare and nutrition center, an alternative learning center. They've also just opened a school for children in grades 1 through 6.
