	Painted El Salvadorian Boxes

Artesanias el Madero de Jesus is a crafts group based in the El Salvador that works primarily with women living in rural areas. 90% of these women choose to work at home using materials provided by Madero de Jesus, thus using this opportunity to care for their families, both financially and literally. Besides teaching painting skills, Madero de Jesus provides work space, materials and design support, plus it provides medical care for each artisan at least once a year.

The artisans at Artesanias el Madero de Jesus bring their traditional wood paintings into the next generation with utilitarian designs, including these nesting wooden boxes that are just perfect for the office or kitchen, and pencil boxes that help you organize writing implements anywhere in your house.

These boxes are hand-painted with bright colors in designs that represent life in the El Salvadorian countryside. They'll make a great gift for a friend, and a good way to get and stay organized. The lids are connected to the boxes with hinges, and the interiors are stained.

El Yagual, the small workshop where these charming pencil holders are made, was started back in the 80's. It started with one woman's vision and unique design sense, and has been growing ever since. They specialize in bright lively designs such as Central American animal, plants, and fruits.
